Tasting notes

This Barbaresco shines with a bright ruby red color that transitions to garnet as it matures. It boasts a sophisticated olfactory profile, marked by floral notes of violet and red fruits, with ethereal and delicately spicy nuances.

On the palate, it is well-balanced, full-bodied with velvety tannins and good freshness, culminating in a long and persistent finish. Its aging potential is excellent, with the wine typically reaching full expression between five to ten years.

Food pairing

Cantina del Conte's Barbaresco pairs splendidly with rich and savory dishes such as egg pastas, risottos, game, and robust meat preparations like roasts, braised meats, and grilled dishes.

It also complements aged cheeses, both hard and soft, adding a luxurious touch to any meal.

An Exquisite Expression of Nebbiolo

Barbaresco, a prestigious wine akin to its cousin Barolo, is produced in the heart of Piedmont, specifically in the communes of Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso. Made exclusively from Nebbiolo, the same noble grape behind Barolo,

Barbaresco enjoys a slightly different expression due to its unique microclimate and soil composition. The clay-rich soils and the specific altitude range (300-350 meters above sea level) provide ideal conditions for Nebbiolo to mature more rapidly, resulting in a wine that is generally more approachable and softer in its youth compared to Barolo.

The Historical Roots of Barbaresco

The history of Barbaresco is deeply intertwined with the Roman conquest, which transformed the landscape from sacred oak forests into vineyards. Over centuries, these vineyards were refined, particularly during the medieval period when Nebbiolo began to be recognized for its exceptional qualities.

By the 1200s, the variety was well-established and esteemed throughout Piedmont, becoming a cornerstone of the region's viticultural heritage.

Cantina del Conte's Approach to Barbaresco

Cantina del Conte’s Barbaresco is a testament to the careful and precise viticulture and vinification processes that highlight the varietal's best traits. Grown in clay-limestone soils with patches of sand, the vines benefit from the southwesterly exposure, which ensures optimal sunlight.

The vineyard, being 25+ years old, has mature vines that produce grapes with concentrated flavors. This particular Barbaresco undergoes a traditional winemaking process, including fermentation in stainless steel and aging in large Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months, which softens the tannins and enhances the wine's inherent elegance.
