Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore "Sergio"

A Symphony of Elegance and Complexity

Exemplifying Barbera d'Asti Superiore, "Sergio" represents the pinnacle of Gozzelino's dedication to the Barbera grape, showcasing an exceptional version of Barbera d'Asti Superiore.

This designation, "Superiore," indicates a wine of higher concentration and depth, achieved through strict vineyard yield controls and extended aging periods. These wines must be aged for at least 24 months, significantly enhancing their complexity and flavor profile over standard Barbera d'Asti.

Terroir and Viticulture

Grown in the rich, diverse soils of Costigliole d’Asti—characterized by sand, clay, tufa, and limestone—Gozzelino's vines benefit from the traditional Piemontese Guyot training system. This careful management ensures optimal exposure and vigor, producing grapes with concentrated flavors.

The vines, aged between 20 and 30 years, strike a balance between youthful energy and mature complexity, with a yield of 90 quintals per hectare, emphasizing quality over quantity.

Vinification and Maturation

"Sergio" undergoes a meticulous winemaking process beginning with the selection and gentle crushing of the grapes, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures of 28-29°C. This phase includes a month-long maceration to extract rich colors, flavors, and tannins. The wine is then matured in 3000-liter Allier French oak barrels for at least 24 months, imparting depth and a subtle oaky undertone without overshadowing the natural vibrancy of the Barbera fruit.
