Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore "Lorenzo" from Gozzelino

A Masterpiece of Depth and Elegance

Superior Quality of Barbera d'Asti Superiore

The "Lorenzo" is a sublime example of Barbera d'Asti Superiore, showcasing the enhanced complexity and elegance that define this superior classification. Reserved for wines that meet more stringent production criteria, the Superiore designation necessitates at least 24 months of aging, with a portion of that time in wood, lending greater depth and structure compared to standard Barbera d'Asti.

Viticulture and Terroir

This exceptional wine originates from the rolling hills of Costigliole d'Asti, where the soil composition—sandy, clayey, tuffaceous, and calcareous—provides the ideal foundation for the Barbera grape. Cultivated under the traditional Piedmontese "Guyot" system, the vines, aged between 20 and 30 years, are maintained with meticulous care to ensure a yield of 90 quintals per hectare, focusing on quality over quantity.

Vinification and Maturation

The creation of "Lorenzo" involves a rigorous process that begins with the careful selection and gentle crushing of the grapes. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures of 28-29°C in stainless steel tanks and is enhanced by a month of submerged cap maceration, which intensifies the extraction of color, flavors, and tannins. The wine is then aged in 225-liter Allier French oak barrels for a minimum of 24 months, a key factor in developing its distinctive profile.
